A visit to Government House was enjoyed in May by members of the Garden Club. At the end of the tour of the house, members were given a guided tour of the gardens.

In March the Garden Club visited the Innermost Gardens at the top of Pirie Street. These gardens are a Community Garden within the old Mt Victoria Ladies Bowling Clubrooms. It was an interesting space consisting of allotments for the locals to use for their own gardening needs, an area for bee-keeping plus a variety of semi-tropical fruit trees as well as a composting site that is available for all the locals to contribute to.

Also in March the group had an extra outing to a rural garden at the very end of Ohariu Valley.   The group was treated to a seated afternoon tea to round off a very successful afternoon.

In February the Garden Group met for lunch at the  Rosetta Cafe, then visited two Raumati gardens. Both featured water views - one of the ocean, and the other garden was right beside a lake. It was a beautiful day, and the outing was much enjoyed.

In November the Gardening Group had a wonderful visit to three magnificent gardens. The first stop was at a large garden in Akatarawa, and the next two were in Upper Hutt. The visits were followed by an excellent lunch at The Fig Tree Cafe in Fergusson Drive.

In July, Garden Group members enjoyed an outing to the California Garden Centre in Lower Hutt. After a good look around, and purchases made, lunch was enjoyed.

Visit to see The Glass Menagerie at Circa Theatre

7.00 pm Wednesday 18th February, 2026

“Acclaimed American playwright, Tennessee Williams penned emotional powerhouse hits like "A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE," "BABY DOLL," "CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF" and "SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER" but it was his tender and  autobiographical ”memory" play, "THE GLASS MENAGERIE," that catapulted him from obscurity to international fame.

THE GLASS MENAGERIE  follows a family trapped by dreams and delusions in 1930s St Louis. Times are tough. Amidst the turmoil of a changing world, solo mother, Amanda Wingfield, a faded Southern belle, is hellbent on finding a better future for her emotionally fragile daughter, Laura, while her restless son, Tom, is caught between his duty to his family and his desire for freedom.

Deftly blending humour and pathos and suffused with the eloquent poetic language that became Tennessee Williams’ trademark, "THE GLASS MENAGERIE" is an achingly beautiful study of four people struggling to conform to the expectation of others.” – Circa web site.
